Fly tackle innovator ArcticSilver is planning for the international launch of its unique Switch-Flex Handle and is on the hunt for funding partners.

The Norwegian-based brand travelled to AFFTA’s Confluence in Salt Lake City to unveil its clever handle system, designed to make swapping between different rods and lines for changing situations quick and easy.

Switch-Flex has been more than two years in development and stemmed from a team meeting at its Trondheim headquarters at the start of 2021, when discussing how to improve on its hugely popular Free-Flex system.

The Free-Flex system was designed to improve casting technique and make casting effortless and effective.

The Switch-Flex handle concept quickly moved from drawing board and 3D model to reality and the team – including ArcticSilver International CEO Dr Katharina Fugger and ArcticSilver USA CEO Darren Cantlay – couldn’t wait to showcase it at Confluence.

Katharina explained: “The whole concept of the Switch-Flex Handle is that you can exchange the fly rod blank inside the handle and exchange the back too.

“For example, you might be fishing on a lake with a 4-wt rod and you move to a river and want to fish with a Spey rod. So you will need to change your blank. This system makes it super easy.

“When you are travelling you will just take your fly rod handle with the different back parts in your backpack and store only the fly rod blanks in your rod tube – it saves you space, weight and money. Not only that, with only one handle for several blanks, it is also saving the environment.”

Eager visitors were keen to try out the handle and the system for themselves and the innovative product created a real buzz on the casting pond and throughout the show.

Now ArcticSilver is ready for the next major step – launching the Switch-Flex internationally – and is looking for funding partners to help.
