Penn commits support for unique Sea Angling Classic

One of the best-known sea fishing brands in the world, Penn, has become the latest major name to commit its support to the unique UK-based Sea Angling Classic, taking place this summer.

Penn is drawing on its 75 years’ experience in saltwater fishing to support the international fishing event, which will be run out of Portsmouth from June 15th to 19th.

A major factor in its involvement is the fact the Sea Angling Classic combines a major sea angling competition, conservation and environmental initiatives, education and research, while introducing a whole new generation to the sport.

With the largest and most valuable prize table ever offered in a UK sea fishing event – including a first prize of a fully kitted out Extreme boat, not to mention Penn fishing gear – the Sea Angling Classic is set to attract boats and anglers from the UK and abroad, while also welcoming youngsters, environmental researchers, and businesses.

Dave McCartney, senior marketing manager at Penn Europe, said: “As Penn is one of the leading saltwater fishing brands in the world, it’s important that we support initiatives that represent the saltwater angling category.

“When we were approached about the Sea Angling Classic, it was something that really excited us. There is currently no other saltwater event in Europe that can match the scale of this event. We knew we needed our brand, Penn, to be present at this event. We’re looking forward to it and making it a huge success and we look forward to a long-lasting partnership between Penn Fishing and the Sea Angling Classic.”

Penn offers a huge range of rods and reels suitable for sea fishing both inshore and offshore, and anglers looking to update their gear, including entrants into the Sea Angling Classic, will be interested in the Penn Slammer IV Reel launching in the New Year.

The Slammer IV is packed with more features than ever before, and the drag system has been redesigned to be better sealed and to offer a wider range of useable drag. This is the ultimate workhorse reel with extra smoothness and Hydrophobic Line Roller Bearing. This reel comes in a variety of sizes ranging from 2500 to 10500.

The Sea Angling Classic competition which is a catch, photograph and release contest will use the species-rich grounds of The Solent, off the coast of Portsmouth, England, again this year.

Event founder Ross Honey said: “The televised event was hugely successful last year and has already gained a tremendous following. As a condition of entry, all competitors have to do a shoreline clean-up, which has been embraced with open arms by all concerned.

“The stage is set for a great event and Portsmouth is the perfect location complete with its amazing maritime history to stage it.”
