Westin Fishing Signs Former Angler Of The Year Brent Chapman

The award-winning Scandinavian tackle company snags one of America’s most accomplished bass anglers.

The 2012 Bassmaster Elite Series Angler of the Year Brent Chapman has announced a new partnership with Westin Fishing. Together, the Major League Fishing star and respected European tackle brand are setting out to redefine bass anglers expectations of quality, performance, and price.

“The quality of the craftsmanship on these baits is outstanding,” says Chapman. “You can really tell they are quality, and they have great action. The designs are different than what people are used to seeing around here. The style of fishing in Scandinavia is so different. It’s focused highly on predator fish, and I’m already finding crossovers that work well in the bass world as well.”

For Chapman, that crossover came with the Westin Baby Bite DR, a crank bait that’s already pulling fish out of his home waters that he hasn’t seen in years. “That’s a bait I wish I had had during the tournament season,” he said. “It could become a new confidence bait.”

“With the Westin Swim, I think I’ll be able to introduce an entirely new style of fishing to the States.”

But Westin isn’t just shipping Chapman a box full of European lures. They’re a longtime premier player in European tackle shops, having first established themselves in 1952. Now, they’re making a dedicated push into the U.S., with expanded distribution thanks to an upcoming Wisconsin distribution centre, and a full-swing collaboration with Chapman to develop baits specifically for bass fishing in America.

“We are exited to have Brent Chapman on-board, says Thomas Eldor Petersen, Westin CEO and owner. Brent will be a key player in our development on the American Bass market. His experience as an established and skilled tournament angler will be crucial as an active member in our strong product development team.”

“That’s the plan,” Chapman adds. “Most people align themselves with a company that’s already in the market and established. With Westin, I had a chance to come in from the ground floor and help them succeed in the U.S. bass market. When I first saw their lures at ICAST, I could tell the quality was there. Now, we’re going to take that quality and make some really cool baits.”

Westin’s North America General Sales Manager Barry Stockhaus echoed Chapman’s sentiments. “To me, it’s extremely important to have a guy of Brent’s calibre working with us long term. His reputation in the bass fishing world is phenomenal. No one has ever said a negative word about Brent. If anything, his only downside is that he’s too honest – but we want that.

This is a guy who’s travelled the country for years fishing for bass. He’s done it from Lake Havasu to the Great Lakes to the Everglades. The career he’s built up over the years, from winning an Angler of the Year on the Elite Series, to his t.v. show Pro vs. Joe, it’s all centred around bass.”

With over $1.8 million in tournament winnings, Chapman is part of an elite group of anglers to win more than $1 million by catching bass. Chapman recorded two Top 10 finishes in Bassmaster Elite Series competition this year before finishing in the Top 5 in its 2018 Angler of the Year race. He’ll fish the 2019 Bassmaster Classic on ESPN, and join 79 of the world’s best bass fishermen on the inaugural Bass Pro Shops Tour in Major League Fishing. That competition will be aired on CBS and the Outdoor Channel.

Westin Fishing is one of the world’s most successful tackle companies. Fresh off of a ICAST 2018 win for Best Freshwater Hard Lure, the Scandinavian tackle manufacturer is primed to become a major player in the U.S. tackle market.

About Westin

The very first Westin lure was created by the late Ingvar Westin, a skilled tool maker who wanted to make a toy for his children. He carved a fish which wriggled and rolled like a real fish as they dragged it through the water. And since it looked like an oversized pike lure, he Christened it the ‘Jätte’ – the Swedish word for giant. The Westin Jätte was born, and with it was an entire new fishing movement – the Westin roll. Westin has grown to become a significant force in European lure, predator, and sea fishing over the years and has been growing globally in a strong way over the last few years. Its expansion into North America has been a steady success story, with much more still to come.
