TTW previews Okuma Fishing Experience

A unique fishing experience produced by Okuma at its base in Taiwan is due to launch very soon and Tackle Trade World has been given an exclusive preview.

TTW business development manager Simon Calvert was one of the first people to see and try out the concept during a visit to the firm’s Taichung headquarters.

The Okuma Fishing Experience has been designed to both educate and inspire and, through interactive maps and other information, explains the types of fishing available in the region, the species on offer and the equipment required to catch them.

There is plenty of education material on marine conservation not to mention the currents that bring the fish (and plastic) to their shores, as well as background on each species.

Simon said: “The Okuma Fishing Experience is a really great idea. Along with the information about fishing in the region, there is a museum showcasing all of its reel models, dating from the first 280s fly reel through to its latest Makaira reels.

“There’s a 3D and 4D cinema with a cartoon about Okuma bears and families fishing in Taiwan. One of the best features is a virtual fishing simulator, allowing you to get a feel for catching a fish – you can even set your own levels of fish fight. That was especially fun and challenging!”

In addition, once opened at the end of October, visitors will be able to enjoy a tour of the factory where the latest Makaira reels are made, relax with food outlets and independent gift shops and there will even be painting activities for children.

  • More details of TTW’s visit to Okuma will appear in a future edition of TTW.
