‘Super-bait’ firm created as major players merge

Two of the biggest names in bait and fish feed – Bait-Tech and Donald Cooke – are joining forces, allowing both firms to grow and extend bait and tackle distribution across the UK and Europe.

The merger will create an experienced management team with great core values and the desire and passion to supply more products and grow both businesses.

Bait-Tech is a well-known family-run business, founded by Peter Clapperton, with all the knowledge and development from his illustrious angling career during the past 50 years.

Peter’s passion for bait development has passed onto his daughter Hayley and together they have become a very effective team, developing innovative products and making the brand the powerhouse it is today.

Donald Cooke, also a family firm, has been running since the early 1900s and has operated within the bait industry since the 1970s, with a philosophy to explore options and move forward, offering customers a varied portfolio of products.

It manufactures Whizzo baits and is a distributor of Coppens and Skretting fish foods and Stroft fishing line in the UK.

Andrew Cooke is excited by the merger and said: “The opportunity to work with this great fishing brand, given the synergies and values we both share, was a simple decision.

“We already work alongside brands like Rod Hutchinson and Stroft, along with the numerous raw materials and services we offer the trade. The opportunities and knowledge provided by this merger will keep improving both our service levels and our products. We are extremely confident that this will lead to big things.”

Bait-Tech managing director Hayley Goldsmith added: “It’s a wonderful opportunity for the brand and I am delighted by the prospect of working with another family business as they appreciate how important it is to have high standards and to care about the team.
