Shimano unveils South African partnership

Shimano has announced an exciting partnership with Down South Trading (DST), based in Johannesburg, involving the distribution of the brand’s world-class tackle for South Africa and the countries directly bordering it.

This partnership, which will start to operate from October 1st, 2020, will strengthen the distribution channels, availability, warranty and repair services of Shimano products in these markets.

The team from DST traces its lineage in the distribution of fishing tackle to the 1940s, when Rusty Pledger started to import and distribute some international fishing brands. Collectively, the current DST team has over 100 years of experience in the importation, distribution and building of fishing brands in its chosen markets.

Commenting on the agreement, Akira Koshimizu, managing director of Shimano Europe Fishing Tackle Division, said: “We are extremely excited to be partnering with DST and strongly believe that with their expertise and experience, we will be able to grow our Shimano brand ensuring that Shimano is ambitious in the manufacture and distribution of fishing products.”

Grant Pledger from DST added, “We are extremely proud and honoured to part of the progressive and innovative Shimano Team.  We look forward to growing the brand in our markets to ensure every angler in the area are able to invest and fish with the number one brand in fishing, Shimano.”
