The American Fly Fishing Trade Association (AFFTA) will be moving the annual IFTD event to Denver, Colorado, following research and feedback from the industry.
The new location will be host to the event for 2019 and 2020, when the time of year that the show is held will also change, being knocked back from summer to autumn. It is hoped that this move of timing will increase industry participation, and is a direct result of feedback from exhibitors and attendees alike.
The new dates for the 2019 IFTD show are October 16th to 18th with the venue playing host to the event being the Colorado Convention Centre.
“After careful consideration, research and discussion with our members, AFFTA is excited to announce that IFTD will be moving to Denver, Colorado, for 2019 and 2020. The Mountain West is the epicenter of the fly fishing industry and the city of Denver is excited to partner with AFTTA to host the IFTD show,” AFFTA commented on the decision.
AFFTA president and CEO Ben Bulis said: “The decision to move IFTD to Denver for 2019 and 2020 was based solely on the desire of our membership and what the majority wanted. This was an extremely difficult decision; it’s not easy to just up and move a show without weighing all possible outcomes, with one being our relationship with ASA.”
Ben continued: “Our industry thanks ASA for welcoming IFTD as a partner in our first ICAST in 2013. AFFTA is committed to making sure our relationship with ASA continues regardless of where IFTD or ICAST are located.”
For many years IFTD has been run in conjunction with the hugely successful ICAST show held in Florida. AFFTA points out that the association will maintain its current show dates in Orlando in conjunction with ICAST through the summer of 2018.
"Colorado is home to some of the top fly fishing locations in the country," said Governer of Colorado John Hickenlooper. "We welcome the American Fly Fishing Trade Association too and look forward to helping it showcase some of the more than 6,000 miles of streams in our state."
Speaking on the news, Mike Nussman, president and CEO of American Sportfishing Association, commented: “Co-locating ICAST and IFTD has been beneficial for many exhibitors and attendees. We wish AFFTA and IFTD our best in 2019 and beyond.”
