The 37th edition of the European Fishing Tackle Trade Exhibition, EFTTEX, is returning to the Dutch capital of Amsterdam for its 2018 showcase. The annual event, which attracts more than 200 exhibitors and visitors from over 70 countries, is returning to the RAI arena for its 13th time in its history this June. With arrangements in full swing and the team at EFTTA busy planning Europe’s largest fishing tackle trade show TTW editor John Watson got to talk with the guys organising the event to find out in more detail the finer points of what to except at this year’s show and importantly, why you should be there.
It was in 2016 when Amsterdam last hosted EFTTEX and welcomed over 1,600 visitors and more than 200 exhibitors from all over the world. Based on current feedback and past shows this year’s event is expecting to see again a high visitor turnout and a very successful show. EFTTEX strives to be a truly international show and has continued to provide this format for the last 36 years. Serving the trade each year in different European cities, EFTTEX continues to attract exhibitors and visitors from the global fishing tackle trade and is a great forum in which to do business with many different companies all under one roof.
EFTTA is the European Fishing Tackle Trade Association and established in London in 1981. The association was set up with a clear objective to support the European sport fishing tackle sector, the manufacturers and wholesalers and the importers and exporters throughout the European trade. EFTTA is the association behind EFTTEX and is active on the political front lobbying for and against policies and legislation that may have effects on the tackle trade. It has grown considerably over the years and has strong established relationships with other worldwide sport fishing organisations such as the American Sportfishing Association (ASA), the American Fly Fishing Trade Association (AFFTA) and the Japanese Fishing Tackle Manufacturers Association (JAFTMA). These critically important links help to promote trade cross-continent, and with reciprocal exhibiting rights granted between the organisations enables members to break into worldwide markets. Membership is open to manufacturers, wholesalers, agents and press from the fishing tackle industry.
Since January 2018 a new membership structure has been implemented, this has ensured fees are fairer. By having a good number of members it will help EFTTA when lobbying in the European Parliament due to member support.
The show will be taking place at the RAI Exhibition and Convention centre which opened its doors way back in 1961 and has grown into one of Europe’s largest venues hosting a truly diverse range of events. Each year up to two million people visit the RAI with the venue playing host to 50 international conferences and 70 trade shows, making the it a suitable choice to stage EFTTEX. The complex consists of 22 conference rooms, 11 halls and has a total floor space of 87,000 m². The complex also includes a musical and concert theatre and underground parking space for over 3,000 cars.

EFTTEX Official charity 2018
EFTTEX is happy to confirm the return of Peuterfonds Netherlands as its official charity for 2018. The Dutch non-profit foundation was the chosen charity in 2016 when the show last visited the Dutch capital. The foundation’s goal is to enrich the happiness of children with health problems by offering them a fantastic sport fishing experience. Groups of children are taken out for a day to let them enjoy and experience the pleasures of fishing. Each child is accompanied by a Peuterfonds-volunteer and each day is fully catered for whereby, at the end, every child receives a fishing rod and a participation medal. The Peuterfonds foundation relies completely on its volunteers and sponsors to make these days happen. To find out more about the official charity for 2018, visit www.peuterfonds.nl
Already, Indonesian tackle manufacturer PT Central Sarana Pancing will be organising and holding a raffle of its rods. All money raised will be going directly to the Peuterfonds Netherlands foundation.

Things to see and do in Amsterdam
Amsterdam has an abundance of things to see and do whilst staying in the city with museums, quirky festivals, theatre, live music, laid-back bars and restaurants, there’s never a shortage of things to do in Amsterdam. Here are a couple of things to visit – Anne Frank’s House gives you the opportunity to Reflect on the atrocities committed against the Jewish people during World War II at the Prinsengracht house where Anne Frank and her family hid from the Nazis for two years in occupied Holland. This is where she wrote he famous diary.
Also worthy of a visit is The Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam is one of the most popular museums in the world, attracting visitors from every corner of the globe. Naturally, this is in large part due to it housing the largest collection of works by Vincent van Gogh.
